Welcome to Highland Zine Bothy
Pictish Zine Workshop : Friday 9 May, 2-4pm
Join us for a creative workshop exploring the mysterious beauty of Pictish symbol stones, taking inspiration from the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery’s unique collection.
The Wolf Stone has represented the Museum’s logo for decades, and features on the signage outside the building as well as on merchandise in the shop. However, there are other symbols that have fascinated historians and artists alike for generations – what do these carvings mean to you?
Inspired by these iconic ancient symbols, you'll have the opportunity to create your own handmade mini zine that explores hidden meanings lost to time, or perhaps brings new meanings to light.
Sober Zine Workshop : Saturday 10 May, 2-4pm
Are you sober-curious, or interested in alcohol-free living?
Join us for a zine-making workshop in collaboration with Highland Wellness Collective, as part of a wider programme of events forming Phase 1 of the Highland Sober Collective, which help you connect with like-minded others while reflecting on:
“What does a perfect sober night out look like?”
“How has sobriety changed my life?”
“Future vision – What could sober social events feel like?”
This session is one of six taking place from April to August 2025. If you are interested in participating, your commitment is also required for the other five sessions.
Breakout Session at SCAN Summit : Tuesday 13 May, 12pm
Be part of a dynamic exchange that turns your reflections on the grid into a collective
document of the SCAN Summit: join us for an interactive workshop exploring what The Grid means to you.
Through a series of yes-or-no questions, you will have the opportunity to anonymously
share your perspectives using colourful sticker dots, creating a visual snapshot of our
collective thoughts on current issues and discussions.
The resulting visual representation of our collective responses will then be formatted into a zine and catalogued in our collection.
Zines Between Bothies : Wednesday 14 May, 1-3pm
This workshop will explore zine-making as a tool for creative reflection, environmental storytelling, and grassroots communication around the Cairngorm National Park Authority's 2030 vision themes of Pledge | Process | Planet.
Through accessible collage-based methods (using repurposed and other found materials), participants will create DIY mini-publications that explore personal and collective connections to climate action, biodiversity, and place, grounded by the central guiding question: "What does it mean to belong – between bothies, between landscapes, between now and 2030?"
Artists who submitted pledges for the exhibition will be given priority booking for this workshop.
